Ron Hunter To Georgia State

Long time IUPUI Head Coach Ron Hunter will be vacating his position to accept the same spot at Georgia State University of the Colonial Athletic Association.

Hunter had been with IUPUI since 1994, leading the Jaguars from Division-2 to Division-1 in 1997. By 2003, IUPUI had their first conference tournament victory, defeating heavily favored Valparaiso 66-64 in the Mid-Continent Championship game. The Jaguars lost their first round game to Kentucky.

Georgia State fired their head coach Rod Barnes a day after their regular season ended, right before their CAA Tournament game against North Carolina-Wilmington.

There is no word on what staff will be remaining at IUPUI and who will be moving on. Student On Sports will keep on this story as it develops.

It took the IUPUI Athletic Department until less than a week prior to the regular season starting to promote Austin Parkinson from an assistant on the men's team to the head coach of the women's team. Mike Moore hasn't shown himself to be very punctual, which is an extremely bad thing for the future of the program.

Recruits are currently scrambling for answers, much like the rest of us. No word on decommitments just yet, but again SOS will cover that as it happens.

It will be interesting to see if his decision to leave had any bearing on the CBI fiasco.

This is a huge blow to IUPUI's program. Absolutely devastating.

Ironically, IUPUI played Georgia State last year in the Glenn Wilkes Classic, held in Daytona, Florida.

  2. If Todd Howard doesn't get the job it's a total travesty. I love Coach Hunter, but he deserves the chance to move on to better opportunities. If anyone is to be blamed it's the administration for failing to ever improve the facilities or environment. Hopefully they'll get one thing right and move Todd up.
