NEWS: Campus Center Opens New Student Health Clinic (Web Exclusive!)

by Stefany Boleyn

The new Campus Center Student Health clinic launched with the start of this semester, and “students love that we’re finally open, in a convenient location,” Emily Werner, Wellness Educator for Student Health Services, said.

Located in CE 213, next to the JagTag Office and in the space that used to house the campus post office, CCSH offers a variety of services to IUPUI students, including wellness screenings, safe sex kits, smoking cessation packs and free HIV/STD testing on the first Thursday of every month.

The clinic is open 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Thursday. Wellness services are offered from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., and a health care provider is available from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Although most CCSH services are free, some do require payment. “With the allocation of the general service fee, we are able to give [students] discounted services,” Werner said.

Chapstick®, some headache, sore throat and allergy over-the-counter medications, and free condoms are available at the clinic as well.

Although central IUPUI Health Services remains in Coleman Hall, Werner said that bringing the satellite clinic closer to the students – to the Campus Center – has already been a huge hit. “Students pass by and say ‘hey, what is that?’ Then they come in, find out what we’re all about, then tell their friends and classmates.”

Walk-ins are welcome at the CCSH, but appointments are preferred for most services. The clinic may be reached at (317) 274-8214.

“IUPUI Health Services has had a temporary presence in the Campus Center once or twice a week the last couple of years. Now the Campus Center Student Health clinic has a permanent presence, and students can take advantage of the many services offered at this satellite location throughout the week,” Jason T. Spratt, Dean of Students, said. “This is a wonderful addition to a building that continues to have a significant impact on the student experience at IUPUI.”
