by Michael Hadley

The Women's Cross Country squad came in third place out of six teams at the Dayton 5K Challenge on Saturday.

Rachel Zajac lead the way for IUPUI, placing 6th overall with a time of 19:02.8. Rebecca Downs finished 12th of all the runners, managing a time of 19:19.7. Jordan Hanaway came in 26th, running at a 19:56.9 clip.

Other runners included Rebekah Jones, 39th, 20:13.7; Taylor Jones, 59th, 20:55.3; Mariana Lopez-Owens, 20:57.7; Ana Paez, 73rd, 21:25.9; Amy Mattingly, 90th, 22:07.2; and Emily Vetor, 110th, 22:53.1.

Head Coach Antonio McDaniel, making his debut as skipper of the Jaguar's Cross Country team, said, "Overall, we ran pretty well. Rachel (Zajac) was only a few seconds off what she was last year, even with the heat. I'd say the times were 40 or so seconds off from last year's results. The girls really attacked it today."
