AROUND CAMPUS: Homecoming Week Festivities

by Kim Mezger

"Let the Good Times ROAR!"

Kim Mezger: When did Homecoming begin at IUPUI?
Tyler Neal, SAPB Media Resource: A few years ago, a group of students were awarded a grant that allowed them to have the funds to put together a few events that began the revival of IUPUI's Homecoming. The previous year consisted of a very simple way to engage students and to bolster student pride in athletics and IUPUI in general. The programs were so successful that the organizations involved decided to give it another go! The newly formed IUPUI Homecoming Committee is formed by SAPB, SOAR, Student Athlete Advisory Council, RHA, Fraternity and Sorority Life, and USG. Theyare striving to create Homecoming into a lasting tradition here at IUPUI. This will be the third consecutive Homecoming since it’s resurrection a couple of years ago. Our goal is to bolster IUPUIPride through a series of fun-filled events and involvement with Athletics.

KM: What are your visions for how this year will go?

TN: We’ve been planning since late April – we have an awesome line-up of performers, events and freebies. You can expect to see comedians, magicians, musical guests, tons of games, competitions, and more! We’re expecting to see even more people participate this year. Last year we were given the opportunity to make an impact on campus and this is something we plan on continuing throughout this year.

KM: What are some reasons IUPUI should get involved in Homecoming?
TN: Well, first and foremost – it’s free. It’s a great way to show your IUPUI Pride and end the stigma of IUPUI “not being like other schools.” We want people involved – Homecoming is a great way to lure people out to show their JagPride and participate in some fun, free events. Not to mention, who doesn’t love a free t-shirt? Oh hey – did I mention free stuff? Get ready to Let the Good Times ROAR!!
