Key Matchups

Guard
Stephen Thomas
vs
T.J. McConnell
Stephen seems to always be matched up with the most athletic guard the opponent throws at Ron Hunter's side, and McConnell is just that: 6-0, 180lb freshman that is averaging 5.1 assists per game and is shooting a crazy 60.3% from the floor.

Guard/Forward
Alex Young + Leroy Nobles
vs
Bill Clark + BJ Monteiro
Two nearly identically matched swingmen both in side and statistics will make this game an extremely fun one to watch. I would suspect the better three-point shooting duo will be on the winning side.

Forward
Anyone
vs
Damian Saunders
Last year, IUPUI was able to match up Robert Glenn on Saunders and keep him quiet for the majority of the night. This year, the Jaguars really don't have anyone inside as good as Glenn was, so it will be a struggle all night to keep him in check.

Keys To The Game

1) Another IUPUI-Paced Game.
The Jaguars did a fantastic job forcing Ohio to play at a pace they were uncomfortable with, never settling in on fast or slow. Duquesne likes to score quickly (almost 10 possesions more per game) after finding the open man (8 more assists per game). Slow. It. Down.

2) Get To The Line.
If this game is about free throws, IUPUI will win. The Jaguars are one of the top teams from the charity stripe this year, while Duquesne isn't exactly stellar (76.7% to 60.8%). In addition, IUPUI generally doesn't foul as often as Duquesne, which will make things a lot more interesting come the final media timeout.

3) Maintain This Momentum!
After the 18-0 run and a huge non-conference road win, IUPUI must take the momentum and ride it all the way through the end of the 2010 calendar year. Each game from here until Western Illinois on 12/30 at home is big, and each game is absolutely winnable. A five-game win streak before Summit League action kicks back in? That'd be gigantic.

4) 43% FG; 38% 3P; 82% FT.
The numbers aren't nice and round this time, but I'm challenging myself. Or I'm going to look stupid. Either way, I think these figures will do it.After a six-day layoff for finals, IUPUI will be back in action against the Duquesne (yes, I spelled it right) Dukes in Pittsburgh. Last year's game was a showcase for the Jaguars who easily handled the Dukes in front of a sparse crowd thanks to the holiday season. IUPUI lost key contributors from a season ago, but the two squads should still be very evenly matched.
