Game Review, Game 10: Ohio State University

There's not a whole lot to say. We had the lead. We had a win. We gave it up. There's no way the refs were helping IUPUI under any circumstance. But, in the end, the 24-4 run by Ohio State killed us. No matter how you slice and dice it. That's life unfortunately.

Player of the Game: Jared Sullinger, Ohio State
No matter if the refs were afraid to call fouls on him, or if they felt like they had to call fouls against him, doesn't matter. Fact of the matter is IUPUI had no one within 50-pounds of muscle with the guy. Ron Hunter's plan was to make the inside guys beat us, and they did. 40 points, 13 rebounds, 1 assist, and 2 steals. Not bad.

Six Man of the Game: Donovan Gibbs, IUPUI
Devo finally had an incredible game, and nearly all of it was spent shooting over the top of Sullinger. He looked calm, cool, and confident every time he touched the ball, and was able to make shots happen. He ended with 12 points, 2 rebounds, and a block.

Stat of the Game: 8, 9:14.
Nearly half of IUPUI's fouls came in a 9:14 stretch after they had gone up 9 points on Ohio State. In that time, the Bucks went on a 21-9 run, committing just three fouls. Hm.

Review: Keys To The Game

1) Keep The Game Close. (YES)
The score was tied with 7:11 to play. IUPUI and Ohio State. I'm still in disbelief. In shock. So happy, and so disappointed. TIED with 7:11 to play.

2) Limit Easy Baskets For OSU. (No)
Ohio State had 36 points in the paint.
3) Go On Runs. (Sort of)
The Jaguars pulled away in the second half, scoring nine unanswered points. That was almost enough, but the #2 team in the nation is going to make runs of their own...and they did.

4) 50% FG; 45% 3P; 85% FT. (Wow, YES)
51.0% FG; 47.1% 3P; 80.0% FT.
I wasn't sure if IUPUI would be half as accurate as these statistics, but holy crap they were. The only "not met" criteria the freethrow missed, but that would've put IUPUI at 100% on the night (4-5).
