Game Preview, Game 23: Western Illinois, Part Deux

IUPUI begins the second half of their Summit League schedule on the road (go figure) against Western Illinois at Western Hall in Macomb, Illinois. The Red Zone will be making the trip west for the first time, but the Jaguars have a ton of winning experience against the Leathernecks, leading the all-time series 24-1. When the teams met before back in late December, IUPUI won with no real problem at all. Will the same happen this time?

Key Matchup

IUPUI Front Court
vs
SUU Front Court
Western Illinois has been able to stick around, if that's what you call it, with teams by playing good perimeter defense as well as shooting fairly well in the same regard. Conversely, they do a very very poor job in the paint and on the glass. IUPUI out rebounded WIU 35-20 in their first meeting, and guys like Christian and Mitch should be able to exploit the interior defense of the Leathernecks for a ton of offensive rebounds and easy buckets.

----------

Keys To The Game

1) Score A Ton.
WIU hasn't scored more than 69 against a Division-1 opponent, while IUPUI is scoring an average of 68.9 in every game so far. If they can get WIU flustered and score a bunch of points - especially early, Western Illinois will completely deflate.

2) Minimize Three Point Attempts.
IUPUI isn't doing well from behind the arc, and with the absolutely huge talent difference in the paint, there should be no reason for more than 8-10 three point shots.

3) Get The Ball To The Baseline.
If you watch the video of the last game, IUPUI goes to the baseline to score in about half of their attempts. From back-door cuts to straight up dribble penetration from the corner, WIU has a big problem with weak-side help. Alex, Leroy, Stephen, and even Donovan should exploit this all night.

4) 52% FG; 85% FT; 45% 3P.
