Player of the Game: Christian Siakam, IUPUI.
Christian had one of the most empatic slams I've ever seen over Emeka Okafor Jr., plus he went 7-13 for 18 points and 6 rebounds, 3 steals, WITH A BUSTED EYE. Towards the end of the fist half he got bopped in the side of the eye, had to come out because it was bleeding (from what looked like under his eye), but played most of the second half and dominated.
Six Man of the Game: None.
Stat of the Game: 20-0.
Yes, again. Against SUU, the Jaguars had a 22-0 run, and tonight they picked up where they left off. A 20-0 run over the first 9:25 put the game out of reach

Et Cetera...
- The score does not at all reflect the actual beat down in the game. 20-0 to start, two timeouts by Jim Molinari, and the fastest pace I've seen from these guys all season.
- Alex's role was interesting...He took just six shots, where his previous low this season was 11, but he managed his third double-double. The kid is maturing as a well-rounded ball player, something that must continue to happen if he plans to impress NBA coaches this summer.
- I'm just blow away by how Christian keeps improving each game. Since being benched in the Oxford tournament, he has completely exploded to the positive. In League games, Christian is averaging 10.7 points, 7.1 rebounds (3.3 offensive), and he's shooting 65.7% from the floor in 24.6 minutes. Before that? He was at 2.9 points on just 45.5% shooting in 10.1 minutes.
- We really, really can't afford to lose Ashworth. Especially before Greg comes back. Sigh... (See: Injury Report.)

Injury Report
Christian Siakam- Not sure of his exact injury. Played well in the second half, showed no major issues.
John Ashworth- Most likely a dislocated thumb. Played okay in the second half, seemed afraid to shoot, took a poor layup attempt with his left hand. We'll see how it affects the rest of his season.
Greg Rice- Stress reaction in his foot. No idea when he'll return, as per his own admission. He said he's doing everything he can to come back.

Key Matchup: Revisited
IUPUI Front Court
vs
WIU Front Court
Exactly half of IUPUI's points (28 of 56) came from the paint, and they out-rebounded WIU 34-24. The Jags shot 58% inside the arc, and Christian nabbed three steals. Now in two games between IUPUI & WIU,

Keys To The Game: Revisited
1) Score A Ton. (Eh, yeah.)
The Jaguars last bucket came with 7:37 to play, but let's face it, WIU wasn't coming back. Ron isn't know for running up the score (except when George Hill shows up and the guys want to show off), and this wasn't any different. 20-0 to start the game in the first 10 minutes meant, in all reality, this one could've been about 85-55.
2) Minimize Three Point Attempts. (Well...)
Western Hall at WIU |
3) Get The Ball To The Baseline. (Yes.)
Absolutely fantastic job by the guards getting the ball around and inside. Not as many back-door cuts as I would have liked to see, but the dumps inside to Christian were absolutely great.
4) 52% FG; 85% FT; 45% 3P. (No.)
44% FG; 63% FT; 13% 3P. Not pretty, but with the way they started, I'll take it.
