SPORTS: Men's Soccer Drops First Of Two In Lexington

by Michael Hadley

In the first game of the Men’s Soccer trip down to the University of Kentucky Tournament ended on a sour note as the Jaguars fell to instate foe Evansville by a score of 2-0.

The Purple Aces scored first in the match in the 4th minute. Aaron Henkle was able to take a rebound off of IUPUI’s Tyler Keever and hammer it home for goal number one of their young season.

"We started well, but then we had a deflection of a shot that ended up in the back of the net," IUPUI Head Coach Isang Jacob remarked. "After that, our effort dropped."

Evansville scored again when UE’s Jarrett Robbins too a pass from Brandon Causey in the six yard box, this time in the 62nd minute to finalize the score. The win was the first for Evansville this season in as many games.

Ian Block, who managed the only shot on goal for the Jaguars on the day, paced IUPUI offensively. Defensively, Keever allowed both goals and made two saves.

"I thought we played better in the second half," Jacob mentioned. "It was much better effort. I really think we need to step up and not respect teams so much. Evansville's a good team - a really good team. They knock the ball around well, but so can we. I don't think we competed as well as we're capable of."

The Jaguars play again Sunday when they take on host Kentucky at 2:30 in Lexington.

LEXINGTON, Kent.
IUPUI 0 0 – 0
Evansville 1 1 – 2
