Game Review, Game 4: San Diego State

Well, we had 'em on the ropes and we let it slip away. Alas, that is why they're ranked and we're not. Though a 15-point loss to a team that beat Gonzaga in Spokane by 3 (after we lost by 30) is pretty good. Especially considering the heartbreaking loss the night before. Let's get into it, shall we?

Player of the Game: Kawhi Leonard, San Diego State
Kahwi was absolutely dominate, especially in the second half. He was 7-13 (4-5, 1-1) for 20 points, in addition to 10 rebounds (5 offensive), 3 assists, and 3 steals.

Six Man of the Game: James Rahon, San Diego State
Though he fouled out, Rahon played 20 solid minutes. He was able to hit two superhoops in the second half in the Aztec's push away from IUPUI.

Stat of the Game: 13:18-9:33, 15 Points.
After IUPUI had gone up 36-33 with 13:18 to play, the Aztecs were able to score 15 unanswered points which put the game completely out of reach.

----------

1) The Bigs Need To Step Up. (Almost!!)
Mitchell played his brains out in his first career start, going for 12 points with two superhoops (HOLY CRAP WHAT A SWEET SHOT THAT IS). Donovan wasn't spectacular, but he looked a hell of a lot better than he did against Miami. [Note: Christian played a couple minutes, but really didn't do much. Interesting...]

2) Mid-Range Shots. (Eh)
Not really. Still lots of driving to the hoop, and some people hit them and others don't come close. You know who you are. Ouch. Donovan is working more on mid-range shots instead of playing inside. Interesting.

3) Avoid Turnovers. (UGHHHH)
17 turnovers. Alex and Stephen with four each. Leroy with three. Greg and Mitch with two each. Donovan and John each had one.

4) 45% FG; 38% 3P; 80% FT. (Nope.)
41.7% FG; 38.5% 3P; 73.3% FT. We had the least amount of superhoop attempts all season (13!!) and hit enough of them (5), but we attempted 14 less shots than San Diego State. It's awfully hard to win when you don't shoot.

  1. Thats great that Patton got the start... I hope he ends up being a force down low. If so, then this is going to be a fun season.

  2. Absolutely. He's gone from "oh great Mitch is in" to "PUT MITCH BACK IN!!!" which, in about five games, is absolutely incredible.
We're stoked to see him developing so quickly, especially as a freshman.
