Game Preview, Game 21: UMKC

IUPUI heads out on the road...again...to take on the Kangaroos of UMKC. Trying to improve on their 5-2 conference mark, the Jaguars will be trying to keep themselves in second place as IPFW, the team IUPUI is tied for second with, will be in the Dakotas where they could potentially lose one or both games. That being said, I've got more video!! And tons of stats!!

Special Note: I'll be in Kansas City for the game, thanks to Teddy's Burger Joint. Their funding of Student On Sports & The Red Zone are truly a fantastic thing, and we thank them SO much for what they do!

Key Matchup

Spencer Johnson
vs
Christian Siakam
In games Christian plays more than 15 minutes (16 of the 20 games so far), he is averaging 7.1 rebounds. Not shabby at all, except when compared to Spencer Johnson's 9.5, good enough for second best in the Summit League. These two should go at it inside all night, and it should be interesting to see how Christian's amazing offensive rebounding numbers (2.95, 13 games of 3+ offensive rebounds) will fare. Both have had foul trouble as well, Johnson fouling out of six games and tallying four fouls in three more games. Christian has fouled out three times, adding four-foul performances eight times. Whomever stays on the floor longer will make the bigger impact without a doubt. Christian should have an advantage, being 20 pounds heavier, but Johnson has been overwhelmingly dominant, going for 9+ boards 10 times, with a 13-rebound game at Oakland.

Keys To The Game

1) Win Big.
The Jaguars are due for a gigantic League win, and there would be no better time than now. Starting a three-game road swing, there would be nothing better for Ron Hunter's squad to just clobber the Roos.

2) Force Bad Decisions.
UMKC isn't the best shooting team, and they like to turn it over a lot. IUPUI's trap-style defense will be extra important in disrupting an already shaky offense.

3) Maintain Ball Distrobution.
Spreading the wealth adds to the danger of playing the Jaguars. Not only can Alex and Leroy drop 25 on any given night, but Christian, John, and Stephen have all had their moments. I'd love to see a real #3 boil to the surface...but the randomness so far has been better for the offense. Either way, all of the starters pitched in for at least 10% of the scoring against SDST, and that should be maintained for sure.

4) 46% FG; 80% FT; 35% 3P.
