Game Review, Game 19: North Dakota State University

Well it was an ugly game, but someone had to win. IUPUI is finally getting the bounces to go their way as they beat North Dakota State and line up the Jackrabbits, who are not scary, in their sights. I keep adding more and more to these post-game reviews, and this time I've added complete STATS, PICTURES, and VIDEO.

Player of the Game: Leroy Nobles, IUPUI.
Leroy and Alex tied in the efficiency department (17), but Roy had the better night overall. 6-13 2P, 2-4 3P, 4-4 FT for 22 points; 5 rebounds (4 offensive); 1 assist; 1 block; 1 foul; 36 minutes. He really took over in the second half, going 2-2 from beyond the arc, 3-3 from the line, in all going for 15 second half points, racking up 4 offensive fouls.

Six Man of the Game: None.

NDST star Michael Tveidt imploded, going 1-10 in the first 39:59 of the game before hitting a three as the buzzer sounded. He contributed with two blocked shots and three assists, but only two rebounds and five total points (two before the last shot of the game).

The guys executed perfectly on the defensive side of the ball, forcing the Summit League's #2 three point shooter to run around in circles looking for an open shot. 1-10 (ignoring his last second bucket) is ugly, and Alex's 7-14 night was clearly superior. Young won the efficiency battle 17-0, too.

Keys To The Game

1) Speed The Game Up. (No.)
This was a slow game from the start, as neither team could really get comfortable in any kind of approach or style. IUPUI had just 58 possessions, well below their goal of 65. However in this anomaly, they forced NDST to be uncomfortable. The Jags will not want to continue to play this way.

2) Start The Weekend Strong. (Sort of.)

NDST was definitely going to be the harder of the two games this weekend, and the Jags would have liked to continue their commanding lead (10 with 4:27 remaining) through the final buzzer. The 'true' score was more like 67-61, but hey...a win is a win I guess. It was pretty ugly though.

3) Feed Leroy The Ball. (Yes.)
It seemed like Roy was getting the ball on nearly every possession, and he made a statistical contribution on at least 1/3 of them. Not sure if 17 shots is the absolute best way for him to help, but when he's making nearly half, it's not as bad. Continued contribution like this would be fantastic.

4) 45% FG; 80% FT; 40% 3P. (Almost.)
47% FG; 91% FT; 30% 3P. The free throw percentage is fantastic, teams love to foul IUPUI and they respond positively. But the Jaguars are shooting just 31.9% from behind the arc in Summit League play.
